Record Attendance for Annual Cadet Parade

This is an annual event held to celebrate the formation of the Air Training Corps on 5th February 1941.

On the afternoon of Sunday 8th February, in bright winter sunshine, staff and cadets of 864 (Marham) Detached Flight, along with other local Air Training Corps Squadrons from King’s Lynn, Downham Market, Swaffham and Watton, joined together at Marham for the ATC Sunday parade and church service. After forming up on the car park behind the Victor Tanker, they marched past Station Headquarters where the salute was taken by the Station Commander, Group Captain Harvey Smyth.

Following the parade, the church service was held in the Station Church. The service was conducted by Station Padre Rev (Flt Lt) Phil Layton, during which cadets read prayers and gave bible readings. An address was given by Group Captain Smyth, after which the Cadets renewed their Air Training Corps Promise.

After the service, tea and biscuits were served during which cadets, staff and parents had the opportunity for an informal chat with the Station Commander.

The Officer Commanding Marham Air Cadets, Flt Lt Tony Hall said: “Over 50 cadets and staff joined the parade this year, the most we have ever had. They looked really good and were a credit to their Squadrons. Our special thanks go to the Station Commander and Padre Phil for making it such a special event for us.”

Marham’s Air Cadet unit is open to boys and girls from service and civilian families from the age of 12.
