RAF Marham Thrift Shop Re-opens Following Refurbishment
The installation of new shop frontages, fire systems and disabled access to the Marham shopping arcade area, it was decided to use the opportunity to refurbish the interior of the Thrift Shop, which had not had any work done to it for a number of years.
Funding was secured for new shop fittings and with the workmen present changing doors and knocking out walls, Karen Medley, the Thrift Shop Manageress and her deputy, Mary Wanbon got started on removing all of the old fixtures and fittings. With new carpets laid and decorating complete the major task of assembling and fixing the new shop fittings got underway. The task was made easier with the help and assistance of the SWO and SAC Chris Medley who devoted a great deal of their spare time in getting everything in place for the grand reopening.
It was hoped that it would only be necessary to shut the shop for two weeks but as is the nature of these things, this, in the end, stretched out to four.
However, the wait was worthwhile and both account holders and customers all agree that the layout and display area is a vast improvement on before.
The Station Commander kindly agreed to interrupt his busy schedule to cut the ribbon at the opening which was well supported, with tea and cakes being provided by the shop and Community Support staff.
Anybody wishing to open an account should call in to the Shop for details or visit the Thrift Shop section under Community Facilities on the Marham Hub website.
