RAF Marham SSAFA Camo Day
Despite the constant drizzle the SSAFA Camo Day, held at the Marham Infant School, was a huge success.
This year the Marham Infant School was joined by Marham Junior School to help support Armed Forces Day, making a total of just under 300 children aged between 4-11 years old. The challenge to keep them all entertained for a morning was set! With all of the children in the hall dressed in their combat outfits, (as were their teachers) – all ready for action! But was RAF Marham ready for the challenge?
Representatives from the Station Fire Section, Force Protection, Police Flight, Storm Shadow, Tornado Maintenance School were in the thick of it as were the Station Warrant Officer and OC Operations Wing. Interactive displays included a police land rover – with sound effects of course, the fire engine and Pinzgauer All Terrain Vehicle. A demonstration of a variety of military equipment, including armoured vests and helmets a Tornado ejection seat and flying kit. Also fingerprints were taken by the Police Flight – just in case! There was a semaphore challenge and a range of “assault” courses – child friendly and well supervised needless to say.
The two grand finales were the SWO addressing the school, with his wonderful assistant from FP they gave a superb display of drill; Mrs Webb (Head Teacher) then donned the SWO’s hat and showed her real potential as a SWO in training. Finally all of the teachers topped the class by giving a “great” marching display. It can be safely said that everyone had a wonderful time.
SSAFA Marham would like to thank: Wg Cdr Connor, Sqn Ldr Smith, WO Wanbon, Sgt Kaberry, Sgt Marsh, Cpl Furniss, Cpl Neal, Cpl Wardle, SAC Barrick, SAC Doyle, SAC Dungay and L/Cpl Telford who gave up their time and were all worn out by the end of the morning! Also a huge thanks to the Marham Infant School for hosting this fabulous event once again and to the Marham Junior School for joining in the fun. Not forgetting parents who kitted out their children in such great outfits and donated a total of £142 to SSAFA!
