Catering, Retail & Leisure News Update
As we start 2014 we look forward to continue to deliver the service to all of our customers. RAF Marham has been at the forefront within the Catering, Retail & Leisure contract with the Royal Air Force.
2013 had many successes for the ISSRAFCRL partnership at Marham, with the launch of the new menus in the Bull & Bowl and Louis’ Bar, the introduction of the Hot Wok bar & Carvery in the JRM and bringing Costa Coffee to both Louis’ & The Convenience Shop. The Grafton Club has seen two highly successful comedy nights and been the venue for various Station & Squadron functions, and is currently being used as the Station Cinema, showing films on a Monday evening. The ISS team have also been proud to support many fund raising activities throughout the year, and the team have contributed over £6,000 to worthy causes over the last nine months.
This year will see ISS continue to strengthen the partnership with the RAF, and with your help we will endeavour to continue to improve our Service to you. There are new initiatives being planned for 2014 the first being the ‘Evening Meal Trial.’
Catering, Retail & Leisure (CRL) including Pay As You Dine (PAYD) has now been part of RAF Service Life for 2½ years. Within the ‘catering’ element of CRL, the requirement to provide a ‘quality’ Core Meal (Classic menu choice) within the current MoD funding arrangements has been a significant challenge to the ISS-RAF partnership.
Following the ‘turning off’ of the Daily Food Charge (DFC) and initial change to the PAYD concept, food services delivery proved to be very challenging in providing the customer with the quality and quantity they were used to and at a price that was in comparison with that being paid as part of the DFC arrangements.
Whilst the introduction of more retail food choices, such as the Carvery and Hot Wok Bar, has seen a trend move away from the classic choice at RAF Marham, there is still a significant proportion of Service personnel at
Marham and throughout the RAF, whose choice of preference is the Classic meal.
Following feedback throughout the RAF CRL Units about the quality of the classic meal, ISS in partnership with the RAF, has agreed to trial a change to the classic meal menu. RAF Marham has been selected as the trial site. Initially, the trial will cover evening meals only and commence on Monday 3rd February. ISS staff will be available to discuss the proposed changes with the customer prior to and during the trial and will welcome customer feedback whilst the trial is on-going.
