Ben the Elephant’s Marathon Training 2016

RAF Benevolent Fund’s Ben Elephant marathon training starts in earnest!

The official mascot of the RAF Benevolent Fund ‘Ben Elephant’ began his training this week in preparation for his first ever marathon.

At RAF Marham the hardwork began in earnest with Ben being put through his paces in the station’s gymnasium, and later as the weather improved he took his first session outside. This is the first time he has undertaken such a big challenge and he is very excited but eager to prepare himself as fully as possible for his challenge.

Initially a little breathless and sore after his training, Ben said, “I am planning a very steady fitness programme, with a variety of exercise to help my flexibility and stamina.  The PTI’s in the station gym at Marham have been a great support giving me special advice on nutrition, in particular I have been told to lay off the buns and peanuts until the event is over! I am hoping that people will follow my progress over the next few weeks and support me in this challenge, and together we can raise some money for the RAF Benevolent Fund.”

Ben will provide regular updates on his progress on Facebook, Twitter and in Marham Matters, and donations can be made on the Justgiving page: or by text: Text – BENE47 £(1,2,3,4,5, or 10) to 70070
