Air Cadet Success

Cadets from 864 (Marham) Detached Flight Air Training Corps have had a successful and busy first half of 2012.

The unit won its first ever trophy in April for the most improved recruitment in Norfolk and Suffolk Wing. It has grown from 12 cadets to 24 in a year. The trophy was presented by the Station Commander to the unit’s OC – Flt Lt Tony Hall – at the annual Wing conference in April.

In May, two cadets from Marham won medals at the Norfolk & Suffolk Wing Athletics. Cadet Ryan Jackson won Silver in the Long Jump and Bronze in the 200m. Cadet Fionuala Lewis won silver in the 200m. The cadets were accompanied to the event by the Station PEdO – Fg Off Collette McGinn.

Also in May, a group of ten cadets took part in a 24 hour military fieldcraft exercise in Triangle Wood organised by 2620 Sqn. In addition to learning camouflage and concealment techniques, the cadets built shelters and slept in them overnight. The exercise was run by Flt Lt James Pettit, DSC 2620 Sqn.

Flt Lt James Pettit said “It was a fun weekend and all of the cadets showed great spirit and teamwork, particularly when it came to the shelter building and cooking.”

The cadets have an even busier summer planned – with visits to TIW and the Fire Section, 6-A-Side Football, Friends & Families Day, Duke of Edinburgh’s Award expeditions to Derbyshire and Shropshire, the 40th Anniversary Wing Parade at Norwich Cathedral, Annual Camp at RAF Boulmer and off-road cycling in Thetford Forest.

Marham Air Cadets are still recruiting. Boys and girls aged between 13 – 16 who would like to join in should contact Tony Hall on 07900 518153 or by Email
