Visit to RAF Marham of Armed Forces Parliamentary Scheme (AFPS) Members
On 27th May 2011, five members of the AFPS visited RAF Marham. The AFPS is a scheme for members of the Houses of Lords; Commons; European Parliament and senior Civil Servants to gain an insight into Forces life.
In essence they assumed the level of squadron leader rank and gained the understanding at a practical level of how operational capabilities are delivered. The visitors were: Lord Kennedy who is a life peer as Baron Kennedy of Southwark; Lord Rotherwick who is a hereditary peer and among his interests include Bentley Priory Battle of Britain Trust; Karl McCartney, MP for Lincoln; Vicky Ford, MEP for East of England and Jessica Lee, MP for Erewash. The group received an overview of the roles performed at RAF Marham from the Station Commander; received a Depth brief in Hangar 3; a Tornado operations brief at IX(B) Squadron and Tactical Imagery Wing summary. Squadron Leader Darren Henry hosted the AFPS throughout their stay and he said “the AFPS received an excellent insight into the support; preparation and operational capability delivered by RAF Marham. The visitors were particularly impressed by the professionalism and ingenuity of the people they met during the visit”.
