Team Marham Fly High at RAF Powerlifting Championships
Wittering played host to the recent RAF Powerlifting and Single Lift Championships that was attended by over 30 of the RAF’s strongest males and females. RAF Marham was represented by five lifters.
Sgt Annie Thomas equalled her combined service record in the full power event and retained her deadlift title once again. Having only recently returned from TLP she was happy with her performance as she goes into her final preparation for the World Championships that are to be held in France at the end of June, as part of the GB team and Combined Service squad.
Marham will also see another lifter, Cpl Jim Oldfield, participating as part of the England and combined services team in France. A 1st place at the RAF event in the Bench Press has set him up well for his first international event.
Also in the bench press event was Cpl Micky Applegate and SAC Leon Babij who finished 2nd and 3rd respectively. Miss Eleanor Roney took part in the event as a guest lifter and achieved three personal bests in competition.
All those who attended the event were hoping to achieve selection to represent at the Combined Services event that is scheduled for the 19th September where the RAF ladies will hope to retain their title that they have never lost since the competitions inception and the male team will seek to end the Army’s dominance of the sport.
