Remembrance, Armistice Day

Armistice Day 11-11-11. The people of Veurne, Belgium remembered the Wellington crew of 38 Squadron RAF Marham which was lost in that location on 30th May 1940 when returning from a sortie in support of the retreat to Dunkirk.

Every year RAF Marham is represented at this parade. On this very poignant occasion Squadron Leader Darren Henry was able to present to the Chief of Police José Clauw, a IX(B) Squadron (who formerly flew Wellingtons) print inscribed with ’11-11-11’ . Some years ago a Cassia tree (tree of life) was planted in front of the Officers’ Mess at RAF Marham and tree and a plaque are there today displaying our connection with the Town of Veurne.
