RAF Marham’s Operations Wing Welcomes New Boss

Operations Wing at RAF Marham welcomes Wg Cdr Gordon Melville who will take over from Wg Cdr Rob Connor.

Wg Cdr Connor, a Tornado GR4 Weapon System Operator took his final flight as Officer Commanding Operations Wing accompanied by his successor Wg Cdr Melville, a Tornado GR4 pilot. The pair flew a training sortie together and on arrival were greeted by friends and colleagues from across the station.

Wing Commander Connor said “It has been my privilege to have commanded Operations Wing at RAF Marham during a period of such unprecedented operational tempo. I have been overwhelmed by the professionalism, dedication and spirit of the personnel of Operations Wing and RAF Marham alike. I wish my successor, Wing Commander Melville, all the best for the future, confident in the knowledge that the Wing is in good shape and in good hands.”

Wing Commander Melville joins RAF Marham following a tour in MoD London. He is no stranger to the station having served here before on both II and XIII Squadrons when they were based at RAF Marham.

On his appointment to Officer Commanding Operations Wing, Wing Commander Melville said, “It is a tremendous privilege to be commanding Operations Wing, particularly given the team’s sterling achievements in supporting several major operations over the last few years. I look forward to continuing to develop the team’s professional approach to supporting all operations, both at home and abroad, as new challenges emerge.”
