RAF Marham’s East Midland Alliance golf League (EMAL) Team at the EMAL Spring Meeting

In only its second season in the EMAL league, RAF Marham hosted the first away day of the golfing calendar.

On a day that promised more than a peppering of showers, Tydd St Giles Golf Club sustained glorious sunshine and presented a course in excellent condition. Ideal golfing fair, and fierce competition from the six other Units that make up the league ensured a high standard of golf was maintained throughout the day. In the AM nine hole Team Event Marham secured victory edging out Waddington and Coningsby respectively. A combined stableford score of 63pts accumulated by Chf Tech Hellawell (23pts), SAC Pitt (21pts) and SAC Whewell (19pts) ensured a narrow victory and subsequent amendments to their handicaps!!

The afternoon event was an individual stableford competition that again witnessed a myriad of high scores (a few particularly low ones as well) and was eventually won by Barry Brown (Cranwell) who submitted an impressive 43pts and pipped Cpl Corn (Wittering) to second place. SAC Pitt (Marham) scored 41pts, securing a credible third place, Marham’s Cpl Pavey and Chf Tech Hellawell also shared places in the top six.

EMAL golf is played weekly and is open to all military and MoD employed personnel with handicaps from 9.5 to 28.
