RAF Marham Friends & Families Day 2011
On August 11th RAF Marham opened its gates for the annual Friends and Families Day.
The event is an opportunity for Station personnel to say a big ‘thank you’ to the families and organisations who have supported them throughout the year, at home and whilst away on operational detachments.
The grey clouds cleared for the afternoon’s flying, which was spectacularly opened by a display from the Red Arrows. Crowds were treated to a wealth of displays including a Spitfire from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, a Focke Wulf 190, and 6 of the Yak 52, known as the Aerostars, performing a stunning display, amongst many others, with the Hunter closing the show.
As well as the flying displays, there were stalls and exhibitors from charities, such as the RAF Benevolent Fund, RAFA and East Anglian Air Ambulance. A large selection of classic cars generated a lot of excitement along with the vintage US military vehicles that were on display. The British Forces Broadcasting Service were on hand to record messages from families to be broadcast to loved ones deployed on operations.
