Norwich City Poppy Collection

On Saturday 29th October 2011 a group of personnel from RAF Marham attended Norwich City Football Club to assist with the Poppy Collection on behalf of the Royal British Legion. As a thank you for their assistance they were invited to watch the match between Norwich City and Blackburn Rovers.

Before kick off SAC Kevin Gally and Cpl Iona Scott presented Norwich City majority shareholders, Delia Smith and Michael Wynn, with a poppy each to launch the appeal.

The group enjoyed a fantastic first half with Blackburn taking the lead minutes before half time. At half time the RAF Marham personnel took to the pitch themselves and paraded to a standing ovation from the packed stadium. The warm welcome they received from both the home and away fans was fantastic.

Taking their seats again for the second half the personnel were treated to a terrific match with the game ending in a 3-3 draw.

With the collection boxes handed in the personnel were keen to find out who had collected the most on the day. Bets were on for the GD Flt team of Sgt Nikki Burdett and Cpl Nina Lines but they were beaten by of Fg Off Megan Henderson and Fg Off Joel Dommett of ‘Team Henderson’ who collected £360.84. The final total for the day was just over £2,380. A fantastic amount to for the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal.
