News from the Hanger
The “Hanger” has had a busy time just lately and would love to share it with you.
Our Afterschool Activity Club has carried out a very successful Healthy Eating Programme. With thanks to funds donated by SSAFA every Tuesday and Thursday we have been able to offer a healthy meal. The children and young people have had masses of fun in organising menus and tasting new and exciting foods. The Healthy Eating Programme continues to run every Tuesday and Thursday at a cost of £1 for the session and a donation of £1 for dinner. From everyone at The “Hanger” thank you SSAFA for enabling us to start this worthwhile programme.
Many children and young people took advantage of the positive activities that the Youth Centre offered this Easter. We had a fab time at Runcton Holme Scout Hut with a fantastic two day Archery Course. Thanks to Bob Keenes for giving up his time to run this. Lots of fun on the Youth and Community Trip to Funky Monkeys. We had great fun creating mosaics and making Easter cards in the beautiful weather. The same weather blessed us on our Youth and Community Treasure Trail in Hunstanton. A wonderful day, I must say a well done to the Youth Centre for completing the trail and finding the treasure first – I know I’m biased! Keep your fingers crossed guys for the £1,000 prize; we could certainly do with it. The highlight of the holidays was the very successful three day School of Rock Music Workshop. Twenty children and young people participated and learnt about notation, rhythm, band craft and writing songs, the workshop ended with a grand performance of all songs written, it certainly bought a tear to the eye. Well done everyone and a huge thank you to Gary from Paul Nicholas School of Rock, we look forward to having you back soon.
We cannot wait to let the children and young people loose on our Summer Activity Programme – watch out for details. We are however kicking off our Summer Programme with the Safe for Summer Campaign. Together with the RAF Police we are delivering two presentations aimed at children, young people and their parents to raise awareness of staying safe within our community this summer. The dates for your diaries for these are 6th and 13th June at 1630hrs in the Youth Centre. It would be great to see as many of the community on these evenings as possible thus ensuring our community has a fun and safe summer this year – tea and biscuits provided.
Lastly I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has helped with the Youth Centre’s growing success over the past few months. If you are interested in volunteering or just lending a hand please drop into the Centre or call me on 07931 997797.
