Marham Squipper Receives Exhibition Call Up

Sgt Ann Thomas, of IX Sqn SES (Survival Equipment Section), has been selected to be part of a sporting excellence exhibition at the RAF Museum at Hendon. Ann was selected by the RAF Sports board as the most successful serving female athlete in recent years.

The display will showcase the most talented athletes of the RAF both past and present during the Olympic year. The opening ceremony will be attended by several dignitaries along with those featured with their families and station representatives in March 2012.

The format of the exhibit will include a sporting profile, pictures, trophies and items of note from her travels around the World. Her most unique item will also be on display, a BBC TV Sports Personality of the year regional runners up award where she lost out to Lewis Hamilton, who had won the F1 drivers championship that year, and who subsequently went onto the main awards himself losing out to Sir Chris Hoy.

One of the best female Powerlifters in the world she has, over the last six years, won five World Championships, five European titles, six National events and every service event since she took up the sport. She holds four world records and has been the Great Britain ladies team Captain for the last three years. A previous winner of the Combined Services Sports woman of the year she has additionally been Suffolk Sports person of the year.
