Marham Powerlifters Sporting Achievements Recognised

Sgt Ann Thomas of IX Sqn SES has started the Powerlifting season in impressive style both on and off the Platform.

Mid February saw her compete at the National Championships and retain her deadlift title for the 6th consecutive year.  Also winning the best overall lifter of the day, Ann saw herself selected to represent Great Britain at the World Single Lift Championships that are scheduled for late June in Autun, France.  A deployment to Portugal will see her need to conduct the majority of her training whilst on detachment with the Sqn in the lead up to the event.  The RAF and Marham in particular were additionally represented by Cpl Jim Oldfield who finished is a very respectable 4th place in the deadlift discipline.

On the 13th March 2012 Ann, along with three other members of the RAF Powerlifting team were in attendance at the Combined Service Sports Awards, held at the RAF Club in London.  They all formed part of the Combined Services Powerlifting team that had been nominated as the team of the year.  The award was presented by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Sir David Richards GCB CBE DSO ADC to Ann who was nominated to collect the award on behalf of the squad.

Wednesday 23rd March saw her attended the official opening of the RAF Sporting Excellence exhibition at the RAF Museum Hendon, where she is a featured athlete in the display.  The event was attended by Air Marshal A D Pulford CBE RAF who opened the exhibition.
