Marham Garden Club Monthly Blog

Hello everyone. We are the Marham Garden Club, an organisation available for everyone living and serving in the Marham area who have an interest enjoying the rewards of growing your own flowers or veg!

Our aim is to provide an area of land, be it a gardening plot (we have large and small available) or a space in one of our raised beds.

The garden club started in January 2010, when a small group of volunteers turned the disused gardens at the back of Woodview into a communal garden.

One year later, the transformation has seen raised beds for veggies and areas for growing strawberries and herbs. Through all of the hard work and interest, the group managed to acquire the old football pitch behind the Marham Infant School. The aim is to provide gardening type plots of various sizes for everyone to grow their own veggies and flowers.

The first task was to erect the fencing and layout of the plots. All this has been accomplished in under a year and in December as part of the Christmas fair, the Station Chaplain and Officer Commanding Community Support Squadron officially opened the gardening plots.

In February 2011 we were issued our first plots, in the space of less than six months the members have dug, planted and turned bare plots into beautiful, fully functioning veggie gardens. Already we have harvested crops and passed on useful hints and tips to other members of the club.

So if your garden, like mine, has been taken over by toys, your pets won’t allow you any of their precious play space or you want to get out of your accommodation block, then we will have a patch for you to have a dig and grow to your heart’s content.

Happy Gardening!
