Marham Duo’s European Success

The Combined Services Powerlifters were in recent action in Switzerland at the European Single Lift Championships and two of Marhams stars where centre stage in a service and National success story.

Cpl James Oldfield performed excellently to finish in the top three in his weight class representing the Combined Service and England teams. Having now firmly demonstrated his potential James is now part of the mainstream England team and is set to continue to represent his country and the services should he maintain his current performance improvement levels.

One of the undoubted starts of the event was Sgt Ann Thomas. No stranger to success she smashed her way into the record books setting a new Military/Police and Fire (MPF) World Record of 150kgs, more than two and a half times her own bodyweight. In winning both her events she was also crowned the best female deadlifter of the championship, further enforcing her place as one of the best female lifters in the world. Representing Scotland and the services this was Ann’s 13th International title win since taking up the sport.

Both Ann and James contributed to the service teams total allowing it to win the best Military team. Team England finished 3rd with team Scotland, captained by Ann finishing 5th overall in the main competition.
