II (AC) Squadron Update

It’s been a busy few weeks on II (AC), with the squadron getting ready for Op HERRICK. Pre-deployment training has started in earnest, with everyone spending time with the Force Protection Squadron, both down the range and in the classrooms.

We had a Tornado Standards Visit (TSV) back in October, where an external RAF team come for a week to assess how the unit if functioning. Although this can be a stressful time, the squadron put in a solid performance and once again it seems that II (AC)Sqn are “Second to None!” With the II (AC)Sqn ground crew also extremely busy, and doing their own pre-deployment training, so hats off to them as well!

The last few weeks have also seen several member of the squadron move on to pastures new. Flt Lt Todhunter leaves us to go and work with the Army in Germany and Flt Lt Dean going to the Aerosystems course, based at RAFC Cranwell. We wish them luck with their new postings. Flt Lt Brett Fusco’s potential has also been recognised this month, with him moving into the Deputy EXO post.

We were also lucky enough to host a team from McLaren for a day, after a visit to their factory by a lucky few from II(AC)Sqn. Our chaps got treated to a tour of the factory and to drive one of their cars around a test track, which must have been a hellish day out!

Early in November, a team from the Squadron attended Ex EAGLE WARRIOR at RAF Waddington, where many RAF platforms join up with ground forces and the USAF for a wartime simulator exercise. It was an interesting week and clearly represents the way forward for enhanced simulation in the future.
