Help for Heroes Golf Charity Event

A team of four RAF Marham personnel from the Station Golf Club took part in a Help for Heroes Golf Event at Eaton Golf Club in Norwich.

The 18-hole charity event raised nearly £4,100 on the day with the Station Golf Club members contributing £170 which was generated from the Club Captain’s Day the previous week. In attendance was Lord Dannatt (ex CDS) who accepted the donation from the players. The £170 was a tremendous effort considering the current Club membership levels but the self-funding Station facility pulled out all the stops to add to the growing Help for Heroes Fund (the Fund has now passed £100m).

The team of Tim Rand, Colin McGuinness, Andy Cairns and Jules Powell had a good day on the course with a highly respectable 86 Stableford points (best two scores per hole). The weather behaved and the organizers made the entire event a fantastic day out. A Typhoon conducted a flypast, but not to be outdone, an Apache also flew in to show off flying skills, nice coincidences adding to the superb day, enjoyed by 120 competitors and raised valuable and appropriate funds for Help for Heroes.

RAF Marham Golf Club is a vibrant and quality golf facility on the camp. It always needs new members to keep it viable so if you are keen to play or maybe even start playing from scratch (no pun intended), please come along and join. A round only costs £10 with annual membership costing £260 so it is well worth it.
