Charity Fishing Match
On Wednesday 21st November, members of Logistic Support Squadron (LSS) from RAF Marham held a Charity Fishing Match at Dents Fisheries Farm Shop Lake.
The event was held to support the ‘Scotty’s Little Soldiers’ charity, an extremely important charity that helps and supports the children of British Forces personnel, injured or sadly killed in the line duty.
The day started early, meeting at Dents Farm Shop Fisheries at 7.30am with constant rain and cold winds not dampening the efforts of eight keen and eager anglers. After the peg draw, the guys were quick to set up and get under way by 8am. The bigger fish seemed to be elusive, playing ‘hide and seek’ for the Carp specialists during the day, although plenty of smaller silver fish were being caught by other anglers. Not deterred by the weather, Sqn Ldr Sam Alexander, OC LSS, took time out from her busy work schedule to visit and try her hand at angling. It was concluded that she will not be taking this up as a future hobby. The match was called to a halt at approx 4pm and the weigh-in commenced, with the winning weight of just over 6lb by SAC Jason Frost. This was followed by a photo call, by Mr Stan Stabler from LSS who also took out time to take action shots throughout the day. Overall it was a very successful day that was enjoyed by all.
We would like to thank Mr Dent of Dents Farm Shop for his support and use of the lake, also our contractual partners SERCO, for their kind sponsorship and organisation of the banners for this event.
Overall the amount of £843.61 was raised for this charity and I hope that this will go towards helping the families of those brave Servicemen who made the ultimate sacrifice in the Service for their country.
