Armed Forces Day at Wisbech
The RAF Marham RAFBF were invited to the Armed Forces Day at Wisbech.
This was an excellent opportunity to raise awareness and raise some money for our RAF charity.
Cpl Russell, A/Sgt Kennedy and myself decided to try and make the stall a bit more interactive and with the help of Wg Cdr Fell and his PA Kirsty Pote who made and designed an RAFBF “splat the rat” we came up with a few ideas. Cpl Russell came up with the idea of a wine raffle which was very popular on the day. Cpl Kennedy made and designed a lucky dip with a few surprises hidden inside for the local children. The day was very hot and humid and the sun was definitely shining, bravely Cpl Russell put the Ben Elephant suit on and went around the market place asking for donations from the visiting public.
Mr Ray and Mrs Jan Hutchinson, members of the organising group, made us feel very welcome on the day. The group, which consisted of some very dedicated volunteers from Wisbech, presented us with a cheque of £500 for the RAFBF. The cheque was presented by Jan Hutchinson and Barbara Oliver on behalf of the Wisbech Armed Forces Day organising group.
The monies raised was as a result of a RAF Swing Wing concert held annually at Wisbech and from which the profits are distributed to the RAF charities. The concert was organised by an enthusiastic group made up of Barbara and David Oliver and Jan and Ray Hutchinson.
The day was a success and the RAF Marham RAFBF would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who made us feel so welcome on the day.
