864 Bags up for RAFA

Cadets from 864 Watton Air Cadets and 864 DF (Detached Flight) based at RAF Marham, spent the day packing bags in Morrisons and Tesco in King’s Lynn, to assist in fund-raising for a group of amateur cyclists from RAF Marham, who plan to complete a mammoth charity bike ride covering the length and breadth of the country.

Three of the team, Fg Off Chris Phipps, SAC(T) Calum Parker & SAC(T) Grant Smith were on hand to help out and explain the task ahead of them. The three servicemen plan to cycle 1250 miles visiting 17 RAF Flying stations, over the course of ten days.

The Ride for RAFA appeal aims to raise funds for the RAF Association’s Wings Appeal who support serving and ex-RAF personnel and their families. Whether it’s an injured airman fighting to get back onto his feet, a young child missing their parent away on overseas operations or a WWII veteran needing a shoulder to lean on, they are there to help.

Over the course of two previous weekends the cadets from 864 Watton Air Cadets have helped raise over £2,000 towards the Appeal, last weekend eleven cadets from both 864 Watton and the 864 DF raised £1,300 over one day.

Cadet Grinsell, one of the cadets involved last weekend said, “It was great fun being part of raising so much money for such a great cause.”
